My friends who have been following me for a long time know that each February I participate in an event called February Album Writing Month (FAWM). The goal is to write 14 songs in 28 days. Songwriters from all over the world come together to collaborate and lift each other up. Even if you don’t write 14 songs, it’s more than you had the month before. I ended this year with 9 new songs and I’d like to share my four favorites with you. These songs are all still in the works, and I’m still learning them, but I hope you will enjoy these sneak peaks into what’s coming up in future performances.
Hug a Snowman
This song was inspired by a photo of my friend Avery from The Boink Show hugging a snowman she had just finished making. It was such an endearing moment that I knew I needed to write about it.
Oh Alpaca
This song first came to me almost a year ago, but I couldn’t get the verses just right. I made sure to give it more time during FAWM this year so I could finish it. I absolutely love all fiber animals, and alpaca is such a lovely fiber to work with, it only made sense to write a song about one.
Everybody Make a Silly Face
This was another song that had been stuck in my head for many months. I wanted to write something that created actions for the audience to follow along to. And of course, it had to be silly, because that makes it fun!
Banana Song
I wrote this song one day for my son, because he wouldn’t stop asking for a banana even though we didn’t have any in the house. It’s short, it’s simple, and it makes me laugh.
